WHEN MEN AND MOUNTAINS MEET

written by Sarah Beth Terry

WHEN MEN AND MOUNTAINS MEET

The man on the mountain

ain’t there by accident

He gave it a name, made his claim

and up he went

Found his way all the way to the top

and had a seat

Proving great things are done

when men and mountains meet

There are riches waiting just outside of reach

And there are lessons

only Appalachians teach

There’s black stone hidden in her heart

you can burn for heat

Proving great things are done

when men and mountains meet

And they’re called hillbillies and Ridge Runners And backwood folk

Highlanders and bushwhackers

Of blackjack Oak

They gave me a man who is as tall as a tree and has gypsy feet

Proving great things are done

When men and mountains meet

One day I’ll leave the foothills

of my past behind

Only pack what will fit in a sack

and start to climb

And join the family name

Waiting there for me

Proven great things are done

When men and mountains meet
